Types of Common Allergic Reactions

Allergy is an enhanced immune response to the foreign agent that enters the body. There are various allergies. These allergies are incurable; they stay throughout your life. Those who experience allergies have to live with it.

Types of allergic reactions

1. Seasonal allergies

Another name for seasonal allergies is hay fever. However, no fever is present in this allergic reaction. Farmers brought this term when they noticed many people had this reaction every year after the harvest period. These allergies cause reactions such as inflammation of the nose lining, stuffy feeling, sneezing, runny nose, itchy throat, and itchy eyes.

2. Sinusitis

Sinusitis is swelling of the mucous lining in the sinus. This condition similar to hay fever or rhinitis; however, this is more severe. The triggers are allergy to chemicals, antibiotics, antihistamines, and decongestants.

3. Asthma

Asthma is a whole different disease, but it can be an allergic reaction too. Asthma is a disease that causes inflammation of the airway that makes breathing difficult. Common symptoms are severe coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath.

4. Eczema

Eczema is a chronic condition. One may experience superficial inflammation of the skin, redness of the skin, edema, itching, crusting, or oozing. These reactions developed in the creases of joints and the trunk. Constant starching may cause bleeding.

5. Hives

It is a reaction that develops red welts on your body. Histamine secretion is enhanced that causes an abnormal immune response. The boils get very itchy. However, they are very uncomfortable.

Hives triggers are:

  1. pollen
  2. food
  3. medicines
  4. Insect bite
  5. exposure to water, sunlight, cold or heat
  6. animal dander

6. Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is an acute allergic reaction. The anaphylaxis reaction occurs suddenly as soon as an allergen enters your body. Later, the reaction becomes severe when the immune response becomes abnormal.

How anaphylaxis takes place? The immune system starts realizing antibodies. Histamine secretion also enhances. A higher level of histamine triggers multiple stages of immune response that lead to the contraction of the airway. Symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath occur when the narrowing of the air pipe takes place. Besides, few people may experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and cramps.

Enhanced level in histamine causes dilation of blood vessels, which lowers the blood pressure, and leads to fluid leakage from alveoli. However, this reaction is life-threatening. This condition occurs rarely.
